This is my story for Friday Fictioneers this week. This is a weekly challenge to write a story in 100 words with a beginning, middle, and end. It’s supposed to follow the picture prompt for the week. The host for the challenge is the talented and gracious Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. This week the prompt is a photo supplied by Sandra Crook. Thanks, Sandra. It has been suggested that Blue could have given Peep even better advice for her night herding, so I have changed my story a bit to fit in with that.

BO PEEP’S PROBLEM by P.S. Joshi
Bo Peep was crying and wringing her hands. She’d lost her flock of sheep.
She’d searched high and low, back and forth.
What could she do? Her whole family depended on her. She’d never been in such trouble.
Until evening everything had been fine. Then they disappeared. She thought she heard them so where could they be?
Little Boy Blue came along and offered to help. She explained her problem.
He looked around and came back to her.
“Peep,” he said. “Aren’t those your sheep over there?”
“Where?” she asked.
He shook his head. “You need night vision goggles, Peep.”

I’d say Peep needs glasses for those peepers very much badly. 😉 Clever take on the prompt.

Poor Peep has had this problem many times before. Maybe it’s the after dark thing that’s causing more problems for her. Night vision glasses?

It’s nice to have a superstar guest star in any fairy tale — here Little Boy Blue is graciously providing the cameo. Looking forward to seeing Goldilocks, Snow White, and maybe even Rumplestilskin in future Bo Beep tales!

Thanks Russell. Your mind wanders in mysterious ways. If she had that problem, I’d advise her to have her name legally changed. Though I don’t remember a nursery rhyme character named Peeping Tom. No doubt with good reason. I’ve been closing curtains for years in case there’s a Peeping Tom, Dick, or Harry out there. 🙂 —Susan

Thanks Al. I guess night vision goggles should be standard equipment. Little Boy Blue probably bought some to show people he was responsible after he made the mistake of falling asleep that time. It’s not good when a shepherd gets a bad reputation. Not in this depressed job market. 😀 —Susan

You’re very right, Susan! Well, most boys and young people are careless in their past, aren’t they? But we all have to grow up at some point, and I’d say Blue has done just that. 🙂

Very funny. Poor Bo Peep. I hope she gets those glasses soon as life will be a whole lot easier with them. This reminded me of a TV advert we have where the shepherd shears his dog for want of a new pair of specs.
