I’m sorry I didn’t have the opportunity to read all the great stories of people who read mine. First, I had a health problem several weeks ago. I went into the hospital on a Tuesday afternoon and came home on Thursday evening. I was weak and on medication, so took a break from writing stories. Then I had trouble with both my laptop and printer/scanner. I got both back yesterday after several days in the shop. That was the second time for both. I hope there won’t be more problems. I’m healing and the laptop and printer/scanner seem okay now.
Here we are once again. This week we’re sitting in a small restaurant across the street from a city apartment building. We’ve gathered as the Friday Fictioneers group. With us is our hostess, the gracious and talented author and artist, Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. The challenge for each of us is to write a story with no more than 100 words. It’s supposed to have a beginning, middle, end, and follow the picture prompt provided for the week. This week’s prompt was provided by Rochelle. Thanks again, Rochelle, and Happy Birthday.

FAMILY PROBLEMS by P.S. Joshi
Some years ago, Planet Z12 decided to send a couple, the Aughts, to imbed themselves in the U.S.A., Planet Earth, to see if people of Z12 could survive there. They were given Earth currency and documents.
“Oot,” his wife Int said, “we have two young ones now. When are we going back to Z12?”
He answered, “We fit in here, I have a good job, and the young ones are happy. I think Z12 has forgotten about us. Just enjoy this life and don’t nag.”
“Oot, you never did like my family.”
“You have become too much like Earth women.”
…I trust your health is okay now, m’Lady , Suzanne 🙂

Thanks, Seumas. I think I’ll be okay as long as I watch what I eat. I have to stay away from anything acidic or overly spicy. I have to watch portions also. Sadly, I have to give up coffee and chocolate. I love them, but they don’t love me back. 🙂 — Suzanne

Dear Suzanne,
Very clever and entertaining story.
I’m so sorry to hear about the medical problems. I’m glad you’re upright and on the mend. It’s been a rough summer for some of us, hasn’t it?
At any rate, I’m glad to see you back. Thank you for the birthday wishes.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Thanks for the good wishes, Rochelle. It’s good to be back, and I’m so pleased you liked the story. It does seem to have been a rough summer for some of us. Your health problem was more serious than mine, and I’m so glad your improving. Thank goodness your infection was found early and successfully treated. I hope today is a great day for you and your family. 🙂 — Suzanne

It seems a very male-centric view.
Clever take on the picture.

Thanks, Mick. I agree that Oot is very male-centric. It’s probably the way men on his planet think. I don’t always agree with the characters in my stories. His wife probably has a valid point. He might have volunteered to go to Earth to get away from her family. I’m very pleased you liked the story. 🙂 — Suzanne

The Aughts both sound very human. However, I’m a bit worried about the ultimate purpose of their mission – are we to expect an invasion? Your story is most entertaining, regardless.

Thanks, Marg. We probably don’t have to worry about an invasion from Z12 because Oot won’t take the chance of having his wife’s parents come here. He probably didn’t report back, and it seems the scientists of Z12 might have really forgotten about the Aughts just as he hopes. I’m so happy you liked the story. I had fun writing it. 😀 — Suzanne

Anything to avoid the in-laws. I’m relieved the invasion’s been forgotten about – imagine the state of the world if we were forced to endure government by such careless creatures.

Nanu, Nanu – Shazbat and all that. If you didn’t watch Mork and Mindy, what I just said will make no sense. Fun story this week!

Thanks, Erin. I’m so pleased you liked the story. I did see some of the Mork and Mindy shows. The old Saturday Night Live show used to also have an alien family called the Coneheads. They used to tell people they were different because they were from France. It was also hilarious. Their heads were cone-shaped. I had fun writing this story. 😀 — Suzanne

I’m glad you’re feeling better. Love the story, it’s fun. Oot seems to have become like a lot of earthling males areound, too. They both blend right in, whether we like it or not.
