DOME RESTAURANT

Lighted dome--C.E. Ayr

Here we are for another week. Today we’re gathered in a virtual large city near the waterfront. There’s a virtual large building with a lighted dome. Our hostess for this group meeting is the talented and gracious author and artist, Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. We’re the Friday Fictioneers group. Our challenge this week and every week is to each write an original story with no more than 100 words. It’s supposed to have a beginning, middle, end, and follow the picture prompt for the week. This week’s prompt was supplied by C.E. Ayr. Thanks, C.E. We hope your pain has lessened.

To read the other stories by the group members, just click on the link given below, then on the little blue frog in the blue box.

The link for this week’s stories is as follows:

DOME RESTAURANT by P.S. Joshi

John and Louise were seated in the new, popular Dome Restaurant.

“Oh,”–Louise gazed, her eyes wide.–“this is lovely. When was it built?”

“Everyone just says it’s new. That’s it.”–His words spilled out.–“I asked several people. They all said the same.”

“Well, I was curious.”–Louise leaned forward and squeezed his hand.–“It doesn’t matter.”

It was their first anniversary and she didn’t want it spoiled.

“Attention, people of Earth.”–A voice thundered from an overhead speaker. “We will be taking off for Planet X-19 shortly. Fear not. We came in peace.”

The restaurant rose.

    • Thanks, Neil. I know. The top of the building looked both like a restaurant and a space ship. I was thinking also of those disguised flying saucers in the movie, “Men In Black”. It was kind of a giveaway. I’m pleased you liked the story. 🙂 — Suzanne”

  1. That was COOL as cool is COOL! I thought of it as a fun ride, sort of. BUT — I also thought of The Twilight Zone episode, “To Serve Man.” YIKES!

Nice, Suzanne! Five out of five saucers of the flying variety! 😀

  2. Thanks, Kent. What a great comment. I saw many of The Twilight Zone episodes but can’t remember most. I wish I could rent them somehow here but maybe later. I looked at the picture and thought saucer or restaurant so combined them. I would “never” believe an alien who said they had come in peace. Especially after the movie “Mars Attacks”. 🙂 — Suzanne

    • Thanks, Perry. Yes, they may spend a portion of their married life off planet. I’ve always loved that scene in “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” where the captives from previous years walk off the ship. 🙂 — Suzanne

  3. Was it the Bistromath? (Google it if you don’t know the reference). I guess he picked the wrong time to check out the new restaurant. Or perhaps the perfect if they want a trip of their life times.

    • Thanks, Trent. I looked up the Bistromath. That’s a really cool ship. I don’t think the Dome Restaurant is the same though it may be similar in some ways. Yes, they did pick the wrong time as I don’t think they were prepared for a trip off the planet. 🙂 — Suzanne

  4. Dear Suzanne,

Now that’s going to be one memorable first anniversary. Unless they really came in piece and not peace. 😉 Clever story. I’m kind of surprised at how many saw that arena as a space ship.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle
