A BARGAIN

Here we are this week gathered in front of a work of art in a neighborhood park. We’ve gathered to discuss our original stories for the week. This is the Friday Fictioneers group. Our hostess for the gathering is the talented and gracious author and artist, Rochelle Wisoff-Fields. The challenge for each of us this week and every week is to write a story with no more than 100 words, not counting the title. It’s supposed to have a beginning, middle, end, and follow the picture prompt for the week. This week’s prompt was provided by Ted Strutz. Thanks, Ted.

To read the other stories by group members, just click on the link given below, then on the little blue frog in the blue box.

The link for this week’s stories is as follows:

A BARGAIN by P.S. Joshi

The day had arrived when Jake Goodrich, famed local art critic, was to choose the show winner. Jake stopped in front of the piece labeled “Wheels” and smiled.

“Without a doubt, this is the masterpiece,” he said in a voice that rose above the mumbling of the large crowd. He put the sign 1st Prize in front of it and stepped back.

That night under a streetlight payment exchanged hands.

“Here’s the amount asked for, Jake,” said Brad Mathews. “Thanks to you I not only have the museum’s top award money, my garage is thoroughly cleared out.”

      • I’m sorry about the post. Heaven knows why, but WordPress double posted it. Since I had it set to post at midnight, I new there would be some inconveniences… People were leaving likes on both posts. But I decided the best thing was to delete one of them. I’m sorry you had to deal with that, but I’m happy you made the effort. Hugs.

  1. I would have to bribe so many authors and artists, just for the garage alone, then there is my study, but perhaps I might get a best seller out of it. Great story Suzanne

    • Thanks, Michael. I’m happy you enjoyed the story. I know what you mean. There’s a junk man with a cart who comes around here and I have sold some stuff to him. However, I didn’t even get close to getting rich. I know he didn’t think of it as art. 😀 — Suzanne

    • Thanks, Bjorn. I’m glad you enjoyed the story and it made you laugh. He was a local critic so perhaps needed the money. I don’t actually know any crooked ones. A future buyer may profit and surprise the artist. Who knows? 😀 — Suzanne

    • Thanks, Alex. I’m happy you enjoyed the story. I was writing humor. I don’t think there are really many dishonest art critics. I made up the story. The picture was sent in by Ted Strutz one of the writers in the Friday Fictioneer group. 🙂 — Suzanne
