P.S.

Some of the state governors are showing courage in protesting the inhumane treatment of immigrating families along the border. They’re calling their National Guard troops back.

Filosofa's Word

Just a short addendum to this afternoon’s post, for I have one more ‘two thumbs’ to give this evening.  This one is to Governor Larry Hogan of Maryland.  Governor Hogan has joined Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker in bringing his National Guard troops home from the Mexican border in protest of “the inhumane treatment of children”.  Nat' GuardSeveral democratic governors, including Governor Ralph Northam of Virginia have done the same, but Governors Hogan and Baker are both republicans, so this was truly an act of courage for them!  Two thumbs up for the courage of the states to have more humanity and compassion than the ‘man’ in the Oval Office!  👍👍

  1. Those guys weren’t doing much anyway – they can’t by law. Not sure why they were sent there to start with as they can’t lay hands on anyone. Some picked up trash. Waste of money.
There are always those who mooch and let others pay the bills. I really think the 10+ unaccompanied minors should be spread into those states for resettlement. (no worries about separating them from their families as the families are back in their original countries) Then maybe there would be room to house the 2,000 children apart from their parents together.
    We need workable compassionate solutions.
Apparently the word about zero policy is spreading. Some families are deciding not top attempt the crossing as they want to stay together. It will be a temporary lull – which might give time to reorganize border efforts and get BOTH parties to negotiate reasonable immigration and work visa reform, A whole bunch of new arrivals really would like to stay inter own countries but need money to live. And then there’s the violence of their homelands. Congress needs to get off their tails and create sensible entry for those who wish to come here to work and maybe live – and they seriously should think about redirecting financial aid to our neighbors in Central and South America so their countries can stabilize and their citizen not fee the need to flee. Hopefully, some of the kids who come here will get educated and learn what they can about economics and politics and will feel a pull to their homelands to use their skills to improve life back at home.
(You do know the chain link images are the intake facility at McAllen, TX. It’s huge to handle the large numbers that always filter through here – for years…back with Pres. Bush, Laura. Constructed without walls for safety as the border patrol can see what is going on as the lines of the crowd snake through. Same chain link used in school playgrounds. No one, by law can remain in this building very long. )
We are a country of laws..something new arrivals are not always familiar with as their countries are very different. They will catch on, hopefully. Society only work when everyone agrees to follow the laws (and change bad ones through the process provided for citizens by Constitution) Everyone, even visitors and guests, agree to stop at stop signs even if no one is around…oh? Not so much any more?
It will be OK. People will get up to speed. Life is constant change – roll with it or roll off the edge and get out of the way.

    • You’re writing about the older children. What about the little ones. Sure, the caregivers can provide care for them but not reunite them with the only people they give a darn about, the parents who struggled for a month or more to get them to safety. Those are the people they have a bond with and who they’ve now been separated from. They were already traumatized by what they and their parents had been through to get to the U.S. border only to have their parents taken away from them. You’re mentioning laws. What about simple humanity, love. Jesus said, “Bring the little children to me.” I think I know what he’s saying through others who object, are horrified about what’s going on. The evangelicals, some of the President’s strongest supporters are shocked and dismayed by seeing children taken away from their parents. Doesn’t he realize what’s happening? It would seem he’s holding the children for ransom to get his blasted wall. I hope he never gets it. I’m sick to death of hearing about it. I’m sure the border patrol agents are just doing their jobs but they’re not the people these little ones need right now. I’ll believe the children will be speedily reunited with their parents when I see it happening. I’ve read it could take years. The present Congress seems frozen in place. President Trump is more interested in building that wall between the U.S. and the countries to the south than helping the people there. I’d be surprised to see him doing otherwise. He’s spreading fear about people with darker skin than his. Only a small number of those people are dangerous gang members and surely not the children under five years old. —- Suzanne

      • No one is happy about this law.
Enough noise. and over the top emotion with no plan offered. We have dealt and gangs (who are now spread to the Eastern cities like Long Island – check the facts) with this for and years – since before Bush and now all of a sudden people are outraged at what they wanted to ignore and would not take sensible, compassionate steps to prevent.
This is not (according to data) a Christian country any more and no one quotes the Bible except to prove assorted issues and wave fingers in others face. Pointless.
Trump is supposed considering executive action to keep families together.
Please call/email Congressional elected officials. We have more in common than differences. No rest.

      • Please contact your elected representatives. Ask them support and to vote tomorrow/today for the immigration reform bill in the House that Florida Rep. Carlos Curbelo had a great deal of input into.
(And please, First Lady Melania, put on your heels and head over to Congress to have a chat with those there – as a mother and an immigrant, your voice should ring true.)
