Desert Moonscapes~

Stunning pictures of Joshua Tree National Park by Cindy Knoke.

Carve impossible vistas.

Jumbled and stacked.

Boulders perch, tossed like balls.

Cracked spines.

Desert ice cream cones.

Joshua Trees twist in tortured poses.

Mother Nature’s iconic artistry.

A gift to treasure and protect.

Joshua Tree National Park encompasses almost 800,000 acres and straddles both The Mojave and Colorado Deserts in Southern California. Joshua Trees are not trees at all, but a variety of Yucca, sculpted into bizarre shapes by desert winds. The eerie rock formations were formed eons ago by cooling lava, that cracked and split from fault uplifting, and eroded over time by wind, water and sand.

100’s of species survive in this harsh desert landscape, despite summer temperature that reach well above 100 degrees fahrenheit. Native Americans inhabited this region for thousands of years and their artifacts remain scattered throughout the park. Be careful or you will walk right by them! We encountered this metate, or grinding stone…

Why The Obama-then Trump Rural Area White Voters Are So Angry?

Why many rural voters are so angry.

Gronda Morin

What’s not for average hard working Americans to be enraged against both political parties. Since 1973 until 2018, the US corporate increase in productivity has been around 77% while the average Joe voter wages have been stagnate at less than 13%.

The major reason for the American workers’ stagnant wages has to do mostly with corporate greed but some causes have to do with more US goods being manufactured in other countries where the hourly pay for workers is much less; corporations developing a greater reliance in technology; and there being changes in the culture, like a greater usage by utility companies of renewable sources of energy versus fossil fuel.

But guess who the culprits are making these decisions. They are the corporation executives who recently benefited from a huuuuge 2017 GOP tax cuts bill, and not the other bogeyman (fill in the blank). It was easy pickings for a…

Pigs Road Moon unsplash compositeDeme and Honeybell, otherworldly pigs of Atonement, TN

Welcome, everyone.   I hope you’ve had a wonder-filled week.  Something fun and unexpected happened to me.  More on that in a second.  First things first.

If I had never written Atonement, Tennessee then I would have never started this blog.  I wouldn’t have written any of the 1920s serials, or met any of you wonderful people.

I was privileged to become acquainted with baker, blogger, and author Robbie Cheadle back when I did the “Thistledown — Midsummer Bedlam” serial.  Robbie’s talents have blossomed so much that she now has two blogs to support her diverse forms of writing and creativity:  Robbie’s Inspiration, and Roberta Writes

I was delighted when Robbie told me she read Atonement, Tennessee — and thrilled when she mentioned that she was going to review it this weekend.  (Update:

The Ugly Face of Racism …

This gal steps right out of the frying pan into the fire. A mistake is supposed to be something you learn from. Not in her case, it seems.

Filosofa's Word

Until a few days ago, the name Cindy Hyde-Smith had no meaning to me, but it has popped up on nearly every media outlet I’ve seen in the past several days.

Who is Cindy Hyde-Smith?

Hyde-SmithCindy Hyde-Smith is the junior United States Senator from Mississippi, in office since April 2018.  A member of the Republican Party, she was previously the Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce and a member of the Mississippi State Senate.  In 1999, Hyde-Smith was elected to the Mississippi State Senate as a Democrat. She represented the 39th district from 2000 to 2012. In 2010, Hyde-Smith switched parties and became a Republican, citing her conservative beliefs.

On March 21, 2018, Governor Phil Bryant announced his intention to appoint Hyde-Smith to the United States Senate seat being vacated due to the resignation of Thad Cochran due to health issues.  She ran in the November 6th mid-term elections…

The Curious Incident of Prez and Prince

Does POTUS speak for all in the U.S.? I think the midterms answered that question.

Filosofa's Word

“President Trump’s response to the brutal murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi is a betrayal of long-established American values of respect for human rights and the expectation of trust and honesty in our strategic relationships. He is placing personal relationships and commercial interests above American interests in his desire to continue to do business as usual with the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia.

The Central Intelligence Agency has thoroughly investigated the murder of this innocent journalist and concluded with high confidence that it was directed by the Crown Prince. If there is reason to doubt the findings of the CIA, President Trump should immediately make that evidence public.

President Trump is correct in saying the world is a very dangerous place. His surrender to this state-ordered murder will only make it more so. An innocent man, brutally slain, deserves better, as does the cause of truth and justice and human rights.

On Draining the ‘Swamp’ …

On draining the swamp trump style.

Filosofa's Word

swamp-1Remember back in 2015-2016, that long, ugly, disgusting, tiresome campaign Trump conducted?  Yeah, who could forget, right, especially since he doesn’t seem to realize that the 2016 election has ended and the campaign is over, so he keeps holding more and more of his really crappy rallies where he still has his minions chanting “Lock her up!”, even though they have forgotten who it was he wanted locked up.  One of the many things that he spent that year-and-a-half (have I mentioned that it was a very looooooong year-and-a-half?) shoving down people’s throats was how he was going to “drain the swamp”, a euphemism for getting rid of corruption in the federal government.  Well, we now know, thanks to Kellyanne Conway, that Trump uses a different dictionary, a different vocabulary than we do, called ‘alternative facts’, and that by ‘drain the swamp’, what he really meant was he was planning…

A Thumb-Up For The Chief Justice

The Judge found his backbone.

Filosofa's Word

In the past week, since the November 6th mid-term elections, we have seen the very worst of Donald Trump.  He has acted alternately like a madman and a two-year-old, determined, it would seem to do as much damage to the nation, the government, and the Constitution as he possibly can before the 116th Congress is seated on January 3rd.  It has been, frankly, de-moralizing and we have had a forewarning of the tyranny Trump might yet inflict upon this nation.  But just in the past couple of days, a few people have slowly begun waking up … people in power are beginning to push back against Trump, to say, “No, sir, you cannot do that”.

One such person is Chief Supreme Court Justice John Roberts, who has finally had enough.  I have had concerns that Roberts was letting the Supreme Court be turned into a…
