PLEASE — More Respect, Less Hate

You tell them, Jill. I hate to see children being raised to hate those who are different than themselves. It all stems from fear of that difference.

Filosofa's Word

No matter which side of the partisan divide you are on, which side of the Trump coin you prefer, I think the one thing we can all agree on is that the two years of the Trump presidency has been the most divisive of any in the history of this nation, perhaps with the exception of the Civil War era, but I’m not even certain of that.  It has absolutely been the most divisive in my lifetime and that of anyone reading this post.

This post is not about Donald Trump … I have made my feelings about him clear in enough other posts … but rather it is about the hatred and divisiveness that people on both sides of the equation are engaging in and that is leading us down a path of destruction.  What brought this about and why now, considering that I have written no less than…

Good People Doing Good Things — Dynamic Duos!

Young dynamic duos of young people doing good things for others.

Filosofa's Word

It has been a while since I’ve focused exclusively on young people doing good things, but these are always so uplifting … it is so heartwarming when we see kids who already have compassion and genuinely want to find ways to help others.  So, today, I would like to introduce two dynamic duos, brothers and sisters who work together to do good things to help humanity.

Julianna Gouthiere remembers when she was six years old, her mom telling her a story about a time when a fireman gave her a stuffed animal at the scene of a motorcycle accident and the impact it had on her mom’s life.  She turned to her mom and said she wanted to do that — to give stuffed animals to children in hard life situations.

Choosing a Book Title – Be Smart

A good post by author Don Massenzio on how to choose a title for your books.

Author Don Massenzio

Yellow book isolated on white, black frame for title on the spinWhen I wrote my first novel, I wanted the main character to be, like me, and Italian American. There are many Italian-sounding first names I could have gone with, Tony, Johnny, Carmine, etc. I decided to go with Frank. Frank is a name that is common among Italians, but it also gave me the opportunity to be clever with the title. I went with Frankly SpeakingThere were other books with this title, but none in the genre in which I was writing. It was a good title in that it seemed to work and not adversely affect sales.

Then came the sequel. For the sequel, I decided to use ‘Frank’ in the title. To try something different, I actually ran a contest and the person with the winning title had their name used as a character in the book. It was gimmicky, but it worked and I landed…

Jolly New Year’s Eve Monday!

A great New Year’s post from Jill.

Filosofa's Word

‘Tis New Year’s Eve and in just a few short hours it will be another year, this one called 2019.  Daughter Chris is working a half-day today, and we plan a quiet evening, just the three of us, with an assortment of appetizers hot and cold that will, with luck, last us through the rest of the week and I won’t have to cook again until next Monday!

Speaking of cooking … I did do a small bit of baking this morning for you, and I just brewed a fresh pot of java, so grab a bite and a cuppa …

I don’t get particularly excited about the New Year, for truly, nothing changes and the designation is man-made.  The new year might just as well have started on the vernal equinox, June 21st, or in the middle of nothing … March 1st.  And I don’t enjoy parties or getting…

Another WTF Moment …

On the news, they were of two minds. One was that it was about time he visits the troops. The other was that he outright lied to those troops as he often does to others. The cost of the trip was not mentioned. What was mentioned was his using the trip to campaign which is against the rules.

Now wait just a doggone minute here!  Donald Trump willfully, irresponsibly, and recklessly shuts down the government, affecting close to one million federal workers, emasculating the food stamp program, demands that the case against him for emoluments violations cannot proceed, as his lawyers are not allowed to work during the shutdown, but he can take Air Force One and make an unplanned trip to Iraq for no better reason than a photo op???

Would you all like to know that it costs between $180,000 and $200,000 per flight hour to operate Air Force One?  PER. FLIGHT. HOUR.  The trip to Iraq would have taken somewhere between 13- 15 hours.  Do the math.  No wait, I’ll even do it for you.  Round trip, the cost of Air Force One alone for this photo op on which Trump also took his ‘wife’, was between $4,680,000 and $6,000,000.  Let me repeat … it…

Jolly 🎃 Monday …

Jill’s Jolly Monday post.

Filosofa's Word

Hi friends.  It’s Monday.  Sigh.  Ready for some laughs?  Sigh.  Okay … how ‘bout we start with a joke.  Why did the chicken 🐓 cross to the other side of the road?  Um … I forget.  Okay … I sense this isn’t going well … let’s start over, shall we?

Hi friends!  It’s Monday and you all get to go back to work … isn’t that just peachy 🍑 ?

Hi friends!!!  It’s Monday … and … um …

Here … just grab a snack while I dig up something humorous …

Alaina Custer was working as a server at a restaurant, Sup Dogs in Greenville, North Carolina when a couple came in and ordered only two waters.  They took a few quick sips of the water, then dashed out, leaving a tip and a note.  The tip seems to me a bit extravagant for only water … $10,000 … in cash

Nightmare in America

All this has happened in close to two years. Have many of us lost our minds?

Filosofa's Word

A quick glance at tonight’s headlines prove that our world has gone nuts!

  • Trump takes credit for ending nonexistent violent crime wave

  • Taylor Swift endorses Democrat, enrages Nazis; “Aryan goddess” no more

  • Melania Trump doesn’t really care what U think about her offensive African safari outfit

  • Trump trolls women again, this time over Kavanaugh vote

  • Coal Is Killing the Planet. Trump Loves It

  • Trump Gives Dictators the Green Light

  • Trump uses swearing-in ceremony to apologize to Kavanaugh

Think back two or three years, if you can, to a saner time.  Would any of these stories have seemed ‘normal’ back then?  The ‘president’ of the United States making up a crime wave so he can take credit for fixing a problem that never happened, and then trolling women and applauding the death of the planet and apologizing to a man who deserves no apology?  Can you imagine Michelle Obama offending an…
