A Review of FRANKLY SPEAKING by Don Massenzio

I read the novel FRANKLY SPEAKING by Don Massenzio last night. When I say last night, I mean I started reading and didn’t finish until the wee hours of the morning. It’s one of those detective thrillers you can’t seem to put down once you start.

It’s the first in a series of four Frank Rozzoni detective novels. He’s an Italian-American detective with a troubled past in Syracuse, New York and has moved to Jacksonville, Florida hoping to escape it and the people looking for him because of it. With his friend, Clifford Jones III aka Jonesy, he works to solve the case of a missing teenager who disappeared while attending a church retreat. He and Jonesy are hired by the girl’s wealthy, distraught parents who are dissatisfied with the efforts of the local police department.

Jonesy is a great help to Frank as he is a practicing lawyer with a brilliant ability on the computer–which includes hacking when it seems necessary–and the ability to remember everything he sees, hears  and reads. He’s also a local surfer who owns and operates a  surf shop with his legal office in the back.

The two play in a trio at a local jazz club, the Sun Dog, two evenings a week.

As the author, Don has done his research. Whenever details are needed in subjects such as Jacksonville and the surrounding area, weapons, computer information, etc., he provides them. This information pulls the reader right into the story.

This was the first of four Frank Rozzoni novels, and I hope there are  more to come. I give it a rating of five stars out of a possible five.
